Description

Visit some of North Dakota’s premiere historic sites by bicycle!

Starting and finishing at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site, this 53 mile loop explores some of the rich history of the Cold War in North Dakota including a tour of a 50’ below-ground nuclear missile launch control center, the former location of a nuclear missile silo, and the historic Finley Air Force Station which served as one of the nation’s earliest radar detection sites for potential incoming Soviet aircraft.


9:30 a.m. – Packet Pick-Up, Route Overview, Safety Information

9:45 a.m. - Guided tour of O-0 Missile Alert Facility

10:45 a.m. - Cycle to N-33 Launch Facility

11:30 a.m. - Guided tour of N-33 Launch Facility

12 p.m. – Cycle to Historic Finley Air Force Station

1:30 p.m. – Lunch will be provided

2 p.m. – Tour of Historic Finley Air Force Station

2:30 p.m. – Cycle to O-0 Missile Alert Facility

5 p.m. – Arrive at O-0 Missile Alert Facility


Important:

  • Helmets are mandatory.
  • Bright, reflective clothing is encouraged.
  • Cyclists must provide their own bicycle.
  • Be casual and enjoy riding at your own pace. This is not a race.
  • Roundtrip: 52.7 miles
  • Snacks and water will be provided. Cyclists are encouraged to bring a water bottle.
  • Participants will receive a swag bag at registration.
  • Transportation will not be provided at any point of the ride. Cyclists must ride back to the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile State Historic Site (or arrange for alternative transportation).
  • The route is not closed to traffic. In accordance with ND Law (NDCC 39-10.1), please remember:
    • Ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practical.
    • A group of individuals riding bicycles upon a roadway may not ride more than two abreast.
    • Every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway is granted all of the rights and is subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle.
